In a recent interview, Selena Gomez tackled the question of whether she’d ever have children or not. Her response led some netizens down a rabbit hole where some of them linked her answer to her famous ex-boyfriend’s announcement with his wife.
Selena Gomez, 31, has fans in a frenzy after an interview she did was published on May 29, 2024. During the interview, the singer’s work addressing what is called a “loneliness epidemic” came up. The star admitted that it was a hard thing to deal with and she still struggles with it.
Gomez also tackled feelings in general. She was asked if having a partner assisted with dealing with the feelings discussed. For those who don’t know, the musician is dating Benny Blanco, a songwriter and producer.
The artist said having a partner is a “little irrelevant” when it came to that particular discussion of the interview because he isn’t her “only source of happiness.” Gomez explained that she was alone for five years and got used to it.
She noted how she had torturous mental talks for two of those years before “kind of” accepting it. However, she was aware that, like her at one point, many people fear being alone. The part of the interview that had tongues wagging came after that.
The singer revealed that her plan was to adopt at age 35 if she hadn’t met the right person by then. But Blanco came into her life, with her seeing him as a friend. The producer wasn’t on her radar at all, leading her to ask him if he knew someone he could set her up with!
Blanco honored her request by bringing Gomez to a birthday party where he introduced her to his friend. That’s when it clicked to the actress that she liked the songwriter, with her stating, “It just happens when you least expect it.”
During a recent interview with Howard Stern, Blanco confessed that he wanted to marry Gomez and have children with her! But his girlfriend laughed hearing this from her interviewer and revealed that the producer wasn’t a good liar and therefore answers questions directly.
However, having years of experience in the industry, she was more cautious because she knew what people could do to those she loves. Gomez credited her adoring fans for shaping the woman she’s become by saying the “most hurtful things” about how she lives her life.
But what made Blanco different was that he isn’t fazed by any criticism. The star revealed that she found that ability impressive and that she cherishes each moment with her boyfriend. However, she didn’t know what would happen in the future, but he was staying put.
Facebook fans who saw a heading from a different publication that said Gomez had shocking baby news replied with confusion. One person asked, “Is she pregnant (sic).” Another confused person questioned, “So fast….?? Let me think.”
On a different Facebook post by the same publication, someone else admitted, “I’m shocked.” One other person who might not have read the actual article wrote, “Good for her! I’m genuinely happy for them.”
Another publication added an article stating that Gomez wanted to adopt a child before turning 35, garnering this response, “Selena Gomez is older than me? Wow!” Two more fans who replied to different Facebook posts somehow thought the actress’ news was linked to an ex.
One person stated, “we all knew this was coming as soon as jb and hailey announced their pregnancy ahahahah omg she’s so desperate.” While another reader said, “It’s all because of Justin Bieber…”

What the two netizens were referring to was the news that Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey, were expecting their first child together. On May 9, 2024, Hailey uploaded an Instagram video of her and Justin seemingly exchanging vows while she sported a big baby bump.
The rest of the post was pictures of the singer photographing his wife and the pair kissing and posing together. Later in the month, on May 24, 2024, Justin uploaded several images on his Instagram showing his pregnant wife and himself, writing, “They wish baby, they wish.”
It appears some of Justin’s fans think Selena Gomez touched on the topic of having wanted to adopt just because her ex was expecting a child. The timing of her interview seems to make netizens feel like she’s trying to one-up Hailey’s husband.
