I Went on a Honeymoon Instead of My Sister, Only to Find out I Would Spend It With My Enemy — Story of the Day

Sarah’s sister and her husband got food poisoning at their wedding, so they can’t go on their honeymoon. They suggest Sarah take their place. But when Sarah arrives at the airport, she discovers a surprise—she won’t be vacationing alone. Instead, she’ll be stuck with the man she despises the most.

Sarah walked into Nina’s apartment and found her sister lying on the couch, looking pale and weak. Nina’s husband, Mark, was sitting nearby, holding his stomach.

“Hey, Nina, how are you feeling?” Sarah asked, concern evident in her voice.

Nina groaned. “Not good. Mark and I both got severe food poisoning from the wedding dinner.”

Sarah sat down next to her sister. “That’s awful. Can I get you anything?”

Nina shook her head slowly. “Actually, there’s something important we need to talk about. Mark and I can’t go on our honeymoon. We’re too sick.”

Sarah’s eyes widened. “Oh no, that’s terrible! But you’ll get better soon and can go later, right?”

Nina sighed. “The flight is today, and the tickets are non-refundable. We were thinking… maybe you could go instead of us.”

Sarah frowned. “Me? Go on your honeymoon? No, Nina, that’s your trip.”

Nina grabbed Sarah’s hand. “Please, Sarah. We don’t want it to go to waste. Just go.”

After a moment of hesitation, Sarah nodded. “Alright, I’ll go.”

After packing everything she needed, Sarah arrived at the airport. At the entrance, she bumps into Mark’s best friend, Todd.

“What are you doing here?” Sarah asks, frowning.

Todd smirked and pulled out a ticket from his pocket, waving it in front of her. “Mark suggested I take the trip instead of him and Nina.”

Sarah glared and took out her ticket. “Nina suggested I go.”

Todd raises an eyebrow. “Looks like we’re taking this trip together,” he says.

Sarah crosses her arms. “I’m not spending two weeks with you in the same room.”

Todd shrugs. “Your loss. I’ll enjoy the vacation alone.”

Sarah huffs. “Nina is my sister. I should go.”

Todd checks his watch. “Mark is my friend. And I need to board now, or I’ll miss the flight.”

Sarah stands her ground. “No, I need to go now.”

Sarah and Todd walk into the airport at the same time, bumping into each other at the door. Sarah feels a rush of irritation. Why didn’t Nina warn her about Todd? Both Nina and Mark knew she couldn’t stand him.

Sarah recalls the disastrous date Nina and Mark once set up for them. Todd kept saying she was boring, which annoyed her. His frivolous behavior only made it worse.

The date ended when Todd flirted with another girl, and Sarah poured her drink over him. Since then, they couldn’t tolerate each other. But now, they were stuck together on this trip.

Sarah and Todd arrive and check into the hotel as Nina and Mark. They enter the room and see only one bed, a bottle of champagne, and rose petals everywhere.

“Right, it’s the honeymoon suite,” Todd says.

Sarah approaches the bed and throws one pillow and one blanket on the floor.

“What are you doing?” Todd asks, annoyed.

“I’m not sleeping with you in the same bed,” Sarah replies.

Todd puts the pillow and blanket back on the bed. “And I’m not sleeping on the floor, so if you don’t like it, you can sleep on it yourself.”

“You…” Sarah can’t find the words to insult Todd.

“Sarah, you’re so boring you can’t even insult me.”

Sarah, furious, steps out onto the balcony. She calls Nina and angrily asks why Nina didn’t warn her about Todd. Nina says that if she had, Sarah wouldn’t have gone. And Sarah needed a break since she was always working.

Sarah returns to the room where Todd is sitting, looking pleased.

“Why are you so happy?” Sarah asks.

“I signed us up for shark diving,” Todd replies.

“You did what?!”

“Shark diving.”

“I’m not going.”

“You kind of have to. We must maintain the appearance of a happy couple doing everything together.”

“You’re sick.”

“At least I’m not boring.”

Sarah and Todd arrive at the shark diving center. The ocean stretches out before them, vast and intimidating. Sarah feels her heart race as she watches the staff prepare the diving gear.

“I can’t do this,” she whispers, her hands trembling.

Todd laughs, shaking his head. “You’re terrified of everything, aren’t you?”

Sarah glares at him. “This isn’t funny, Todd.”

Seeing the genuine fear in her eyes, Todd’s smile fades. He steps closer and puts a hand on her shoulder. “Hey, it’s going to be okay. I’ll be right there with you.”

Sarah nods, trying to steady her breathing. They both get suited up and head to the boat. As they approach the dive spot, Sarah’s panic returns.

Todd gently helps her into the water. “Just breathe. Look at me, not the sharks.”

Sarah nods, focusing on Todd. Gradually, her fear subsides. They descend into the water, surrounded by the majestic creatures. Todd holds her hand, guiding her through the experience.

To her surprise, Sarah starts to enjoy it. The sharks are beautiful, and she feels a rush of excitement. When they resurface, Sarah smiles, though she doesn’t let Todd see how much she enjoyed it.

The next day, Sarah gets her revenge. She signs them up for a full day at the spa. Todd groans as they walk in, clearly unimpressed.

“This is torture,” Todd mutters as they start with a mud bath.

Sarah laughs. “Relax, you’ll enjoy it.”

Todd grumbles through the treatments, complaining about every procedure. But as the day went on, Sarah noticed him starting to relax. During a massage, he even lets out a contented sigh.

“Told you you’d like it,” Sarah says smugly.

Todd rolls his eyes. “I only enjoyed it because I was surrounded by attractive women all day.”

Sarah shakes her head, smiling. “You’re impossible.”

Later that evening, Sarah meets this man, Michael, at the hotel bar. Michael is calm, stable, and hardworking, just like her. They talk about their jobs, interests, and views on life. Sarah feels a connection with him. They decide to have drinks on the beach.

As they sit by the water, Sarah feels at ease. She excuses herself to go to the bathroom. On her way back, she sees Todd approaching Michael. Curious, she stays out of sight and listens.

“Sarah found someone as boring as herself, huh?” Todd says with a smirk.

Sarah feels anger rising within her. Todd continues, “She’s always working and has no interests.”

Furious, Sarah steps forward. “What is your problem, Todd?”

Todd looks startled. Michael stands up and turns to Sarah. “Don’t listen to him. He’s just jealous.”

Sarah glares at Todd but doesn’t leave. Instead, Michael asks her, “Would you like to go out on a date?”

“I’d like that,” Sarah nods, feeling angry and confused.

They walk away from Todd, leaving him to stew in his jealousy. As they head to the beach for their date, Sarah wonders if Todd’s words were meant to hurt or to push her away from Michael. Either way, she is determined not to let Todd ruin her evening.

A few days later, Sarah stands in front of the mirror, carefully applying her makeup. Todd sits on the bed, watching her with a smirk. “Going on a date with Mr. Boring, huh?” he teases.

Sarah rolls her eyes. “Just mind your own business, Todd.”

She slips on a pair of high heels and stands up, ready to leave. Suddenly, one heel snaps, and she twists her ankle, falling to the floor. Todd bursts out laughing but stops when he sees the pain on her face.

“Are you okay?” he asks, his tone shifting to concern.

Sarah winces, holding her ankle. “No, it hurts.”

Todd quickly moves to her side, helping her to the bed. He gently examines her ankle and then leaves the room. He returns with a cold compress and some food.

“Here, this will help,” he says, placing the compress on her ankle.

Sarah looks at him, surprised by his sudden kindness. “Thanks, Todd.”

He shrugs, avoiding her gaze. “Just take it easy, okay?”

As Sarah rests, she sees a different side of Todd, a caring side she hadn’t noticed before. For a moment, the tension between them fades.

In the evening, Todd and Sarah lie in bed. On the first day, Sarah had built a wall of pillows between them to keep their distance.

“Are you asleep?” Todd asks, breaking the silence.

“No,” Sarah replies quietly.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” Sarah says, turning slightly to face him.

“Why are you so afraid of everything?” Todd asks, his voice soft but curious.

“What do you mean?” Sarah responds, frowning.

“Trying new things. I was surprised you came here instead of Nina. That’s not like you.”

Sarah sighs, thinking about her answer. “I don’t know. I’ve spent years creating my comfort zone. I don’t want to lose it now.”

They fall silent for a moment, the room filled with the sound of their breathing.

Sarah breaks the silence. “Why are you afraid of being boring? What’s so bad about it?”

Todd takes a deep breath, considering his words. “I don’t know. I’m more afraid of not living life to the fullest. My dad died young. He never went anywhere, never saw anything. I don’t want that for myself.”

Sarah moves closer to the pillow wall to better see Todd’s face. ” Are you afraid of ending up like him?”

Todd nods, his eyes reflecting a mix of fear and determination.

“But you can’t spend your whole life running, taking risks. Sooner or later, you’ll have to stop,” Sarah says softly.

“I’d rather it be later,” Todd replies, pausing. “But you like it too, don’t you? Taking risks. I saw how much you enjoyed swimming with the sharks, even though you tried hard to hide it.”

“Maybe,” Sarah admits, “but you enjoyed the spa day too.”

Todd chuckles. “Looks like we complement each other. I guess that’s why we need people in our lives.”

They lock eyes, a new understanding forming between them. Todd leans over the pillows and gently kisses Sarah. He pulls back, looking embarrassed. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I don’t know what came over me.”

Sarah hesitates for a moment, then leans in and kisses him back. The kiss deepens, and all the tension from before seems to melt away. They spend the night together, the pillow wall forgotten, as they find comfort in each other’s presence.

Sarah and Todd have been dating for a week. They spend all their time together and no longer need to pretend to be a couple—they’ve become one. Todd takes Sarah on various extreme adventures while Sarah teaches him to relax on the beach. They laugh, argue, and grow closer each day.

One sunny afternoon, Todd is swimming in the ocean, diving through the waves. Sarah lounges on a beach chair engrossed in a novel. The sun’s warmth and the waves’ rhythmic sound make her feel at peace. Her phone rings, breaking the calm. She sees Nina’s name on the screen.

“Hey, Nina! What’s up?” Sarah answers, smiling.

Nina’s voice is urgent. “Sarah, you won’t believe what I just found out.”

Sarah sits up, sensing something serious. “What is it?”

“Todd called Mark. He said he’s planning to propose to some girl when he gets back.”

Sarah’s heart skips a beat. “Who? Who is the girl?”

“He didn’t say, but it’s probably a colleague he was seeing before the trip.”

Sarah’s stomach churns. She forces a calm tone. “I’ll call you later.”

She hangs up, feeling hurt and angry. How could Todd use her like this? Just then, Michael, the guy she met earlier, walks up to her.

“Hey, Sarah. Sorry you couldn’t make it to our date last time. Want to try again?” Michael asks, smiling warmly.

An idea forms in Sarah’s mind. She needs to hurt Todd as much as he’s hurt her. “Sure, Michael. Let’s go out tonight.”

Sarah spots Todd walking back from his swim, glancing their way. She takes Michael’s hand and pulls him close, kissing him. She makes sure Todd sees.

Todd’s face falls. He quickly turns and heads back to their hotel room. Michael, unaware of her plan, smiles at her. “Ready for dinner?”

Sarah nods, trying to push down her guilt. “Let’s go.”

During their date, Michael talks about work, his interests, and his plans for the future. Sarah listens, but her mind keeps drifting back to Todd. She realizes that, although Michael is nice, they share the same views and have nothing new to talk about. There is no spark.

After dinner, Sarah returns to the hotel room. She finds it empty, Todd’s things gone. A crumpled piece of paper in the trash catches her eye. She picks it up and reads Todd’s proposal speech. It’s for her.

Guilt and panic flood her. Todd was going to propose to her, not someone else. She runs out of the room, determined to find him. She can’t lose him now, not after realizing how much he means to her.

Without wasting a second, Sarah grabs her purse and runs out of the hotel. She flags down a taxi, her mind racing. “To the airport, please, as fast as you can!” she tells the driver, her voice urgent.

The taxi speeds through the streets, but it feels like an eternity to Sarah. She grips the seat, her thoughts a whirlwind. She can’t let Todd leave without knowing the truth. She needs to tell him how she really feels.

Sarah rushes to the airport entrance, her heart pounding in her chest. She tries to push past the security guard, but he blocks her path.

“Ma’am, you can’t enter without a ticket,” he says firmly.

“I have to find someone!” Sarah pleads desperation in her voice. “It’s a matter of life and death!”

“I’m sorry, but I can’t let you in,” the guard insists, shaking his head.

Sarah looks around frantically and spots a small crowd gathered nearby. “Oh no! Look!” she shouts, pointing dramatically. “What’s happening there?”

The guard, momentarily distracted, glances in the direction she pointed. Seizing the opportunity, Sarah bolts past him, sprinting into the terminal. “Stop!” the guard yells, chasing after her.

Sarah’s breath comes in short gasps as she weaves through the crowd, her eyes scanning the departure board for Todd’s flight. She spots him near Gate 14, walking away. “Todd!” she screams, her voice echoing through the terminal.

He doesn’t turn around. The security guard catches up to her, grabbing her arm. “Miss, you need to come with me.”

“Please, Todd, turn around!” Sarah begs, struggling against the guard’s grip. Tears stream down her face as she sees Todd continuing to walk away. “Todd, please!”

Finally, Todd stops and turns around, his expression confused and concerned. He sees Sarah being held by the guard and walks over. “What’s going on?” he asks, looking between Sarah and the guard.

“Todd, I need to talk to you,” Sarah says, her voice trembling. “Please, just listen.”

Sarah turns her head to the guard. “Please, I just need a few minutes,” she pleads.

“I’ll give you two minutes,” the guard replies in a serious tone.

Reluctantly, the guard releases Sarah’s arm. She stumbles forward, her eyes locked on Todd’s. “Nina told me about your proposal,” she begins, wiping her tears. “But I thought you were proposing to someone else. I thought you were using me.”

Todd’s expression hardens, and he turns to leave. “Wait!” Sarah shouts, her voice breaking. “I kissed Michael to hurt you as much as I thought you hurt me. But I was wrong, Todd. I don’t want to be with anyone else but you. I love you.”

Todd stops and turns back slowly. He walks over to Sarah, his eyes searching hers. “You love me?” he asks quietly.

Sarah nods, fresh tears streaming down her face. “Yes, I love you. I’m so sorry for everything.”

Todd’s expression softens. He gently cups her face in his hands. “I love you too, Sarah,” he whispers, his voice filled with emotion. He leans down and kisses her, and the world around them fades away.
