Bride Runs Away after Receiving a Paper Swan Moments before the Ceremony – Story of the Day

On her wedding day, Molly doubts marrying Peter, who doesn’t share her passions despite his wealth and charm. Her world is shaken when she receives a letter from her ex-fiancé, who vanished a year ago. This leads Molly to confront her past and choose between true love and security.

Molly sat quietly in her room, the soft hum of wedding preparations buzzing around her. It was her big day, but she couldn’t shake the knots in her stomach. Her best friend, Martha, was busily applying the finishing touches to her makeup, the scent of roses and vanilla filling the air.

“Hold still, Molly,” Martha chided gently, brushing a bit of blush on Molly’s cheeks. “You need to look perfect for Peter.”

Molly took a deep breath and bit her lip. “Martha, I… I’m not sure about this,” she finally confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.

Martha paused, looking at her friend in the mirror with a mix of surprise and concern. “What do you mean, Molly? Peter is perfect. He’s handsome, comes from a wealthy family, and has a great future ahead of him. What more could you want?”

Molly sighed, her eyes drifting to the window where she could see the garden below, full of guests milling about. “It’s not that, Martha. Peter is cold towards me. He doesn’t understand me. I love reading, painting, and walking in nature. But Peter… he only cares about money and business. We don’t share anything in common.”

Martha shook her head, her disbelief was evident. “Molly, you’re being foolish. If I were in your place, I’d be on cloud nine. You’re about to marry into a life most people only dream of. Why are you letting these small things bother you?”

Molly opened her mouth to respond, but before she could, a soft rustling noise came from the door. Both women turned to see a small envelope that had been slipped through the crack. Martha picked it up and handed it to Molly.

“Who could this be from?” Martha wondered aloud as Molly took the envelope with trembling hands.

Molly carefully opened it and gasped. Inside was a paper swan, exactly like the ones her ex-boyfriend, Colin, used to make for her. A flood of memories washed over her. Colin, who had disappeared a year ago, leaving her heartbroken and alone at the altar. She had never stopped wondering what had happened to him.

There was a note inside the envelope. Molly unfolded it and read aloud, “If you still love me, come to the place where we first kissed.”

Martha’s eyes widened. “Molly, you can’t be serious. You can’t run away from your wedding. Think about Peter, your family, everyone who’s here for you.”

Molly stood up, the decision already made in her heart. “Martha, I have to know the truth. I need to find out what happened to Colin, or I’ll always wonder. Please, stall for time. Just do whatever you can to delay things.”

Martha stared at her friend, torn between duty and understanding. Finally, she nodded. “Okay, but hurry. I’ll do what I can.”

With a final, grateful glance at Martha, Molly gathered her dress and slipped out of the room, her heart pounding. She made her way through the back corridors of the house, avoiding the guests and the bustling staff. The garden gate was her escape route, and she hurried through it, her thoughts racing.

Molly couldn’t believe she was doing this. But the pull of the past, the need to understand why Colin had left her, was too strong to ignore. She knew she was taking a huge risk, but she had to know the truth, no matter what it might be.

Molly arrived at the abandoned cabin, her heart heavy with a mix of anticipation and dread. This place held so many memories for her and Colin.

They had spent countless hours here as teenagers, escaping the world and sharing their dreams. The cabin looked almost the same, though a bit more rundown. As she stepped inside, the scent of pine filled her nostrils, bringing back a flood of memories.

The faded drawings on the walls, the old couch where they used to sit and talk for hours, and the creaky wooden floors all reminded her of the happier times they had shared. Molly’s father had never approved of Colin.

Colin didn’t come from a wealthy family, and he had no grand ambitions. He just loved life and loved her. He made her laugh like no one else, wrote her poems, and always found unique ways to surprise her with thoughtful gifts.

As she walked further into the cabin, Molly felt a wave of nostalgia wash over her. She had missed this place, missed the simplicity of their time together. Suddenly, she saw a familiar silhouette standing near the window. It was Colin, but he looked different.

He was more muscular, and he had a beard now. There was something in his eyes that she hadn’t seen before, a kind of sadness mixed with determination.

“Molly,” he said softly, stepping towards her with his arms open. But Molly took a step back, her heart pounding.

“Colin, you can’t just show up like this,” she said, her voice shaking. “You broke my heart. You left me alone at the altar. I deserve an explanation.”

Colin’s face fell, and he looked down at the floor. “I know, Molly. I owe you the truth. I didn’t want to leave you. Your father came to me just before our wedding. He offered me money to disappear from your life. I refused, and then he framed me. I was arrested and thrown in jail. I tried to write to you, but my letters never reached you.”

Molly felt a mix of anger and sadness welling up inside her. “You should have fought harder to contact me, Colin. I spent the last year wondering what happened, thinking you didn’t love me enough.”

“I did, Molly. I do,” he insisted, stepping closer. “As soon as I got out, I wanted to find you. When I saw you were getting married, I had to know if you still loved me. That’s why I sent the letter.”

Molly looked into his eyes, searching for the truth. “You want me to run away with you?”

“Yes,” he said, his voice filled with hope. “We can start over, away from all of this. We can be happy together.”

Molly shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. “Colin, I can’t just leave my family. I need to talk to my father. I need to understand why he did this.”

Colin looked defeated but nodded. “I understand, Molly. Just know that I love you, and I’ll be waiting for you. Whatever you decide, I’ll support you.”

Molly took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts. “I have to go back. I need to confront him and get the answers I deserve.”

As she turned to leave, Colin gently grabbed her hand. “Be careful, Molly. Your father is a powerful man. Don’t let him manipulate you.”

“I won’t,” she promised, squeezing his hand. “Thank you for telling me the truth.”

Molly left the cabin, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. She had to face her father and demand the truth. She couldn’t run away from this. It was time to take control of her own life.

Molly returned to the wedding venue, her heart pounding with a mix of anger and determination. She made her way to her father’s room, her footsteps echoing through the quiet hallways. Taking a deep breath, she pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Her father looked up from his desk, surprise flickering across his face. “Molly, what are you doing here? You should be getting ready.”

Molly stood tall, her voice steady. “I spoke with Colin.”

The room fell silent. Her father’s expression darkened, but Molly pressed on. “He told me everything. How you framed him, had him arrested, and kept him away from me. Why, Dad? Why would you do that to us?”

Her father sighed, leaning back in his chair. “It was for your own good, Molly. Colin is a nobody. He has no future, no prospects. I couldn’t let you throw your life away on him.”

“That’s not your decision to make,” Molly said, her voice rising. “I loved him, and you took him away from me. The wedding is off. I’m canceling everything.”

Her father’s eyes hardened. “If you ruin this wedding, you will no longer be my daughter. Forget about the inheritance and never come back.”

Molly felt a lump in her throat, but she stood her ground. “If that’s what you want, then so be it. I’ll stay at the wedding.”

Her father’s face softened slightly, a small victory flickering in his eyes. “Good. You’re making the right choice, Molly. Peter is the future you deserve.”

Finally, the ceremony resumed. The music started, and Molly’s father walked her down the aisle. The garden was beautiful, filled with flowers and adorned with delicate decorations. Guests turned to watch, their faces a mixture of joy and anticipation. Molly tried to keep her composure, but her mind was racing.

Peter stood at the altar, looking handsome and confident. But Molly’s heart was heavy. She knew she had to face the truth and make the right choice, no matter how hard it was. As she reached the altar, she took a deep breath, preparing herself for what she had to do.

The officiant began speaking, but Molly raised her hand to interrupt. “I’m sorry,” she said, her voice strong but trembling. “I need to say something before we continue.”

Peter looked puzzled, and her father’s face turned stern. The guests murmured in confusion. Molly took a step forward, her eyes scanning the crowd. “A year ago, I was at the altar, just like today. But I was left alone, abandoned by someone I loved. Today, I have the chance to set things right.”

The crowd fell silent, all eyes on Molly. Just then, there was a commotion in the back, and Colin stepped out from the crowd. He looked determined, his eyes fixed on Molly. The guests gasped, and Peter’s confusion turned to anger.

Molly looked at Peter, then at Colin. She turned to the guests and said, “My father ruined my wedding a year ago. He framed Colin and kept him away from me. But now, I want to make things right.”

Martha, understanding the gravity of the situation, quickly moved to distract Peter, leading him aside. Peter tried to protest, but Martha was firm, guiding him away from the altar.

Molly reached out her hand to Colin, inviting him to join her. He stepped forward, his eyes filled with hope. They stood together at the altar, facing the guests. “I’m sorry for the confusion,” Molly said, her voice steady. “But I need to follow my heart. Colin, you’ve always been the one for me.”

Colin’s face lit up with relief and joy. He took Molly’s hand, and in that moment, everything felt right. They looked at each other, and without a word, they knew this was their moment. They leaned in and kissed, sealing their love in front of everyone.

Molly’s father was furious, his face red with anger. He started to step forward, but he realized there was nothing he could do. The guests were shocked, but some began to smile, understanding the courage it took for Molly to make this choice.

Molly pulled back from the kiss, her eyes meeting her father’s. “Dad, I know you wanted the best for me, but this is my life. I have to choose what makes me happy, and that’s Colin.”

Her father’s anger slowly turned to resignation. He saw the determination in Molly’s eyes and knew he couldn’t change her mind. He turned away, defeated.

Molly and Colin stood together, their hands intertwined. They had faced so many obstacles, but their love had prevailed. The guests began to clap, and a sense of relief washed over Molly. She had made the right choice, and nothing her father did could change that.
