Patrick’s behaviour had changed towards Jane, his wife. He would talk about anything, but now he was not, he closed himself against Jane. He was not even leaving his phone in the same room with Jane.

Recently, Patrick was basically living in his office, and Jane was eating most dinners alone.

“What’s going on, Patrick?” Jane asked one day.

“Work is demanding, Jane,” Patrick said. “It’s going to settle down soon, I promise.” And then he went back to his home office.

Few days later, as Jane’s car broke down, Patrick offered his own car. “Use mine, darling,” he said. “I filled it up last night.”

As Jane got into her husband’s car, while she was adjusting the driver’s seat, she found a ring in a velvet box. The ring was not belonged to Jane. While she was driving the car to her work, her mind was floading with thoughts.

She was thinking that her husband was cheating on her. She started to plan a revenge, as she didn’t know the truth about the ring.

She took a habanero sauce, and drenched the ring in it, and put it back where she found it. When she went back home, she found Patrick cookind dinner.

“I need to see my Mom; she wanted some help with things around the house. I’ll be home soon,” he said then.

Later, Jane hardly hold herself for not calling her mother-in-law to learn that if Patrick went to his mother. Then her phone got ranged, it was her best friend, Monica. “Jane! I need your help!” She said in a panic mode on the phone.

“What’s wrong?”

“I put on a piece of jewelry, and it feels like my hand is on fire. What do I do? It’s never happened to me before! It’s so bad!”

Jane’s heart skipped a beat. As she calmed herself down, she said Monica to put her hand into yogurt, and asked about what happened.

“I… I don’t know, Jane. It just started a few seconds after I put the ring on. Patrick didn’t know what to do either, so he said to call you,” Monica said, and gasped when she realized she said something she shouldn’t.

“My goodness, Monica. Why are you with Patrick? Please, just tell me.”

“It’s not what you think, Jane. Patrick and I have been planning your surprise party. The ring is for you. It’s a family heirloom from Patrick’s side, and he wanted you to have it. He showed it to me now because he had just gotten it cleaned. I just wanted to try it on.”

Then Jane understood the late night works, and the secrecy Patrick had. It was for Jane. Then Jane said to Monica that Patrick should bring her over to their house so she can take a look.

When they arrived, Jane told them what happened. “It’s okay, Jane,” Monica said, “We should have mentioned something sooner. I’m just glad that we can clear this up now.”

“I need to apologize to both of you. I let my insecurities get the best of me and jumped to the worst conclusions.” Jane said at dinner.

“It’s okay, love. What matters is that we’re honest with each other now. Here, I want you to have this.” Patrick said.

Then he handed the ring onver with a smile, “You can have it now, instead of on your birthday.”
