A father has sparked a furious debate after revealing his plans of abandoning his wife and child after finding out the girl might not be biologically his.

The anonymous man, who is believed to be from the US, shared on Reddit that during an emblazoned row with his wife, she let slip that their nine-year-old may not belong to him.

On further investigation, the husband discovered that his wife’s suspicion was true and he is now considering demanding a divorce.

However, this move would potentially leave his ex and the child he once believed was his daughter homeless.

Reddit users bashed the father in the comments, branding him as ‘totally messed up’ and ‘clearly a bad dad’.

The man, 37, explained: ‘We had been married for 10 years and we have a daughter who is nine going on 10.

‘Me and my wife had a fight and she said something about my daughter not being mine I kept a straight face but after she realised what she said she left and went to bed.

‘I had never thought about my daughter not being mine, but I had to know if she was or wasn’t.

‘Long story short I got a paternity test and I wasn’t her father. I showed it to my wife who begged and pleaded with me not to get a divorce, but I told her that I was.’

After sharing the heartbreaking news with friends and family, the man says they all encouraged him to cut his ex-wife and her daughter out of his life.

He continued: ‘I don’t want to raise a child that’s not mine nor do I wanna pay for her either.

‘My wife keeps calling me telling me not to make her and our child homeless, but I don’t care if she is homeless or not she shouldn’t have cheated.’

Before asking members of the forum for their opinion, the man revealed that the girl’s real father had died a few years ago.

Many flocked to the comments, horrified by what the man had said about a child he raised for nine years.

‘That poor little girl. She doesn’t know you are not her daddy,’ one wrote.

‘Wife is an a******, but you may not be your daughters bio-dad but to her you are her dad,’ a second penned.

Another chimed in: ‘This is what makes me sad. He’s not upset or heartbroken.

‘He’s angry. He should be sad that she isn’t because he loves her. Poor kid’

‘Yeah, he clearly doesn’t love her. The hard thing is that she probably adores him. This is going to devastate her,’ a Reddit user replied.

One questioned: ‘You raised that kid for 10 years and would be fine with never seeing her again? With her growing up realizing that she wasn’t worth keeping in your life?

Others were baffled by the man’s thought process, with one person stating that they could never ‘cut off’ a child they raised.

They added: ‘Sure I would be devastated and definitely wouldn’t stay married. But the little girl would still be “mine”.’

Another person branded him a ‘terrible father’ who never tried to ‘connect with his daughter’.

They quipped: ‘[He] probably would make her life marginally worse by being in it.’

Some users were keen to point out that although the young girl may not biologically belong to the man but he may still be legally responsible for her welfare.
